1. Purpose
Verification helps users distinguish Listings for which a defined fact or control method was checked. Verification improves trust but is limited in scope and is not an endorsement, guarantee, background investigation, or government certification.
2. Possible verification methods
- Code sent to a business-domain email or listed telephone number;
- HTML tag, file, DNS, or other proof of website-domain control;
- Business registration, assumed-name record, license, certification, insurance, or instructor credential;
- Government-issued identity document when reasonably necessary; or
- Other evidence reasonably connecting the applicant to the listed business.
3. Authority to claim
The applicant must be an owner or authorized representative. Firearms Directory may contact the business using independently obtained details and may reject unverifiable, altered, inconsistent, expired, or suspicious documents.
4. Badge meaning
A badge confirms only the verification step described on the Listing at the time completed. It does not verify every claim, promise future compliance, guarantee safety or quality, or establish approval by a government, police department, sheriff, NRA, USCCA, or any other organization.
5. Credential verification
Credential badges may identify the credential checked, issuing organization, status, or expiration date. Listing owners must report suspension, revocation, expiration, or material changes promptly. Users should independently confirm credentials before paying or enrolling.
6. Logo verification standard
The primary logo must be the official business logo or brand mark. Business cards, storefront photographs, banners, flyers, collages, service images, pricing graphics, staff photographs, instructor credentials, licenses, certificates, and résumé graphics are not acceptable as the primary logo. Supporting documents must be submitted through designated verification fields and may not be displayed publicly.
7. Reverification and expiration
Firearms Directory may require periodic reverification or reverification following material changes, complaints, security events, ownership transfers, or credential expiration. Failure to respond may cause the badge to be removed.
8. Removal and appeals
Badges may be withheld or removed for inaccurate information, expired credentials, loss of business control, misleading claims, policy violations, suspected fraud, or inability to reconfirm. Appeals may be sent to support with supporting documentation.
